Good news for everyone who loves sharing their kitchen creations: you can now upload HEIF photos straight to The Yum Pandemic, with no fiddling required.
What does this mean for you?
If you have a recent iPhone or iPad, your camera saves photos in a format called HEIF (you may also see it as HEIC). It is a clever format that keeps your pictures looking crisp while taking up far less space on your device. The catch is that many websites do not recognise it, which often leads to frustrating upload errors or extra steps to convert your photos first.
Not any more. From today, HEIF photos work across the whole platform. Take a picture of your dinner, pick it from your camera roll, and upload it. That is all there is to it.
Who benefits most?
- Apple device users: Newer iPhones and iPads use HEIF by default, so your photos will now upload exactly as they are, with no changes to your camera settings.
- Other devices that use HEIF: Some Android phones and digital cameras also save photos in this format, and they are now supported too.
- Everyone else: Your usual JPG, PNG, and WEBP photos continue to work just as before.
Why we made this change
Food is meant to be shared in the moment. Nobody wants to be wrestling with file types while a perfectly plated dish goes cold. We want sharing a recipe, a restaurant discovery or a proud home-cooking moment to feel effortless, whatever phone is in your pocket.
Ready to try it?
Next time you cook something delicious, or find a dish worth shouting about, just snap a photo and upload it. We cannot wait to see what you share.
As always, if you run into any trouble or have ideas for how we can make The Yum Pandemic even better, we would love to hear from you.
Happy cooking, and happy sharing!
