Private Label Growth Hits 24 Per Cent

Store brands are capturing a larger share of food and beverage spending as retailers refine their inventories.

Private label products now account for 24 per cent of all food and beverage spending. This shift is prompting major retailers to rethink their product assortments to better accommodate store brands.

According to Food Industry Executive, Kroger is expanding its range by adding approximately 870 private label items. In contrast, BJ's is reducing its club assortment by roughly 20 per cent.

While overall volume remains flat, the rise of private labels means branded products face tougher competition during category reviews to keep their place on the shelf.
