Aldi has emerged victorious in a four year conflict with Lidl regarding the opening of a new store in Horncastle. Both supermarket chains had submitted bids to establish a presence in the town.
According to The Grocer, planners had previously ruled that allowing two discount supermarkets to open would be too harmful to the local town centre. This decision led to a protracted struggle over who would secure the available space.
