Ghana Boosts Cocoa Farmer Pay

New legislation ensures cocoa farmers receive 70 per cent of the export price.

Ghana has passed the COCOBOD Bill, a legislative move designed to secure a fairer share of profits for cocoa producers. Under the new rules, farmers are guaranteed 70 per cent of the cocoa export price.

According to Food Business Africa, the bill also introduces updated pricing and financing measures. These changes aim to strengthen support programmes for farmers and improve sustainability across the sector.

The legislation further focuses on enhancing local cocoa processing, reducing the reliance on raw exports and boosting the domestic value chain.
