Saudi Arabia is pursuing a significant effort to harmonise halal standards on a global scale. The initiative seeks to create a single, unified system for certification to reduce complexity for food manufacturers and exporters.
According to FoodNavigator Europe, the move comes as the global halal market reaches a valuation of ten trillion dollars. A standardised approach could remove existing political and religious hurdles that currently fragment the industry.
If successful, the project would simplify the process for international brands attempting to enter various Muslim markets by replacing multiple regional requirements with one overarching standard.
