Buldak (fire chicken) emerged in South Korea during the early 2000s as a spicy grilled chicken dish.

The instant noodle version, Buldak Bokkeum Myeon, was launched by Samyang Foods in 2012 and became a global phenomenon through viral eating challenges. The "mukbang" culture popularised extreme spice tolerance tests, making these noodles iconic.

The addition of cheese, milk, and mayonnaise reflects Korean culinary fusion trends that moderate intense spice with dairy richness, creating a creamy carbonara-style variation known as "Buldak Carbonara" or similar adaptations. This particular recipe represents the evolved home-cooking version that incorporates rice cakes (tteok) and dumplings (mandu), creating a substantial one-pan meal that bridges instant convenience with traditional Korean street food elements. ■
