A US federal court has ruled that the USDA overstepped its legal authority by allowing certain states to restrict the purchase of specific food items. The ruling effectively blocks pilots that would have banned the use of SNAP benefits for candy, snacks and sugary drinks.
According to a report by BeverageDaily, the judge determined that these specific food restriction waivers were not permissible. While the court stopped the bans on sweets and sodas, other existing waivers remain in place.
