Food and drink recalls are proving to be a massive financial burden for UK companies. According to research commissioned by technology firm Balloon One, the average cost of a single recall event is now almost £550,000.
The study, conducted throughout July and August 2026, also looked at the speed of product tracing. Data reported by Food Safety News indicates that it takes several hours on average to trace affected items in the UK.
This efficiency stands in contrast to the United States, where the same process routinely takes anywhere from several days to multiple weeks to complete.
