Wakefern Food Corp has issued a recall for its Wholesome Pantry Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce. The action follows routine testing by the FDA, which found levels of patulin that exceed established food safety limits.
According to Food Safety News, patulin is a substance produced naturally by moulds. These moulds typically grow on apples that have been bruised or damaged, and the substance can remain present in products manufactured from the affected fruit.
