Raw Fish Risks Highlighted in China

Researchers warn of liver fluke infections following a cluster of illnesses linked to raw freshwater fish.

Five individuals in China fell ill earlier this year after dining at a restaurant. According to Food Safety News, the Henan CDC received a report of a suspected clonorchiasis case in February 2026.

Clonorchiasis is caused by the liver fluke Clonorchis sinensis. The parasite is transmitted to humans through the consumption of raw or undercooked shrimp and freshwater fish that carry the larvae.
