The FDA has announced a plan to reassess the safety of adipic acid (ADA) and the chewing gum preservative BHT. These ingredients are currently classified as generally recognised as safe, but the agency will now conduct further reviews.
According to Food Dive, this move comes as the regulator shifts away from a previous strategy that prioritised ingredient evaluations based on the level of consumer concern.
