Burkina Faso has introduced a National Tomato Research Programme designed to combat the substantial waste occurring after harvest. The initiative seeks to reduce post-harvest losses, which currently sit between 30 and 40 per cent.
According to Food Business Africa, this move follows several years of effort to organise the sector. A key part of the strategy involves enhancing local processing capabilities to ensure more produce reaches the market.
