Public trust in the safety of the US food supply has reached an all-time low. This decline in confidence coincides with a significant spike in Cyclospora infections, with state-published data showing more than 21,000 cases across all fifty states as of 31 July.
According to Food Safety News, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed 98 hospitalisations and 1,947 cases linked to outbreaks across nine states.
In contrast to the American trend, safety measures in Canada, Europe, and Britain have remained stable or have seen an increase.
