Tongaat Hulett is facing a financial claim of R517 million, equivalent to approximately US$32.3 million, following a recent court decision. The ruling comes after the highest court in South Africa dismissed the company's appeal concerning suspended sugar levies.
According to Food Business Africa, the claim was brought by Sasa. The legal defeat adds further pressure to the group, which is already described as being in a state of financial distress.
