Parasite Burden Shifts Globally

New research indicates that while some foodborne parasite infections are falling, others are seeing a regional rise.

Scientists have analysed the impact of 14 different foodborne parasitic diseases between 2000 and 2021. The study focused on tracking incidences, fatalities, and disability-adjusted life-year burdens to understand the scale of human suffering caused by these infections.

According to reporting from Food Safety News, the data shows a mixed trend. While the burden associated with Paragonimus has decreased over the two decade period, there has been a marked increase in cases linked to Clonorchis in certain regions.
