A federal district court has intervened to stop five states from restricting what participants can buy using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The ruling follows a challenge to waivers that previously allowed these states to bar the purchase of specific items, including candy and soft drinks.
According to Food Dive, the judge determined that the USDA exceeded its legal authority by approving these waivers. The decision ensures that participants in those states can once again use their benefits for these food items.
