Italy has seen a decrease in reports of haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in 2025. According to Food Safety News, more than 40 cases of the condition were recorded during the year.
HUS is a dangerous complication that can arise following an infection of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). The condition is known to cause significant health issues, including brain damage, kidney failure, and death.
